Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information the Fard app collects, how it is used, and what choices you have. We have written it in plain language. If you have any questions, please contact us at the address at the bottom of this page.

Data stored on your device

The following data is created and stored locally on your iPhone only. It is never transmitted to our servers.

• Your location — GPS coordinates and your city name are used to calculate prayer times and determine Qibla direction. This data stays on your device.
• Prayer logs and streaks — Every prayer you log is stored in the app's local database on your device.
• Quran bookmarks and reading position — Saved to your device only.
• Dhikr history, presets, and chains — Saved locally.
• Qada log — Your missed prayer makeup log is stored on-device.
• Preferences and settings — Calculation method, madhab, Quran edition, and notification preferences are stored locally.
• Name (optional) — If you enter your name during onboarding, it is stored on-device only and never transmitted.

Data sent to third-party processors

Fard uses the following third-party services. Each one is described below with exactly what data it receives.

Sentry — Crash & error reporting

If the app crashes or encounters an error, a report is sent to Sentry (sentry.io). Reports include:

• The error message and stack trace
• Device type and iOS version
• App version and build number
• App environment (debug or production) and subscription tier (Pro or Free)
• Behavioral breadcrumbs — a sequence of recent in-app events leading to the crash, such as "user opened audio player" or "user changed notification settings." These are functional events only; no names, emails, or location coordinates are included.
• An anonymous device identifier (the same ID used by PostHog below)

Sentry data is processed in the United States. No personally identifiable information is sent.

PostHog — Usage analytics

We use PostHog (posthog.com) to understand how features are used, so we can improve the app. Events sent include:

• App install, update, and open events
• Onboarding completed
• Paywall viewed
• Pro subscription purchased, purchase failed, or purchases restored

PostHog assigns a randomly generated device identifier. No name, email, location, or prayer data is ever sent to PostHog.

PostHog data is processed in the United States.

RevenueCat — Subscription management

When you purchase or restore a Fard Pro subscription, your App Store receipt is sent to RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) for validation. RevenueCat receives:

• Your App Store purchase receipt
• Your subscription status and renewal dates

RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, location, or any prayer data. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple.

Quran audio — islamic.network CDN

When you play Quran audio (a Pro feature), the app streams MP3 files from cdn.islamic.network. The only data transmitted is the surah and ayah number embedded in the file URL. No user identifier is sent.

Linking anonymous identifiers

Sentry crash reports are associated with the same anonymous device ID generated by PostHog. This allows us to correlate crashes with usage context (for example, "the crash occurred after the user opened the Quran reader"). This linkage does not identify you personally — it is a randomly generated device-level ID with no connection to your name, email, or Apple account.

Data we do not collect

• Name, email address, or phone number
• Your precise GPS location (transmitted remotely)
• Health data
• Browsing history or data from other apps
• Payment card or financial information (handled entirely by Apple and RevenueCat)
• Any data from contacts, microphone, or camera

Data sharing

• We do not sell your data — ever.
• We do not share your data with advertisers or ad networks.
• We only disclose information to third parties when required by law or to operate the services listed above.

iCloud Sync (Pro subscribers only)

If you are a Pro subscriber and enable iCloud Sync, the following data is synced via Apple's CloudKit to your personal iCloud account:

• Prayer logs and streaks
• Qada log
• Dhikr history, presets, and chains
• Quran bookmarks and reading position
• User preferences and settings

This data is stored in your own Apple iCloud account, protected by Apple's encryption and access controls. We cannot access your iCloud data. You can disable iCloud Sync at any time in the app's Settings.

Notifications

Fard uses local notifications only — no remote push notification servers. Notification content (prayer name and time) is generated on your device. If you grant notification permission, that preference is stored locally.

Children's privacy

Fard is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will note them in the App Store release notes and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
